  • Mizuno Running Shoe Trial:
My name is Dr Bryan Roberts and I am a Researcher based at Loughborough University Sports Technology Institute. We are hosting a running shoe trial for Mizuno in January and we hoping to find some recruits. If it’s possible ,would you mind sending this to your list of runners? For completing the test, which is only 2 hours of your time, each participant will receive a free t-shirt and the most comprehensive report available of their running gait from coaches and experts for free.
    So, the trial:
The study will be looking at the biomechanical differences in forefoot vs heel strike runners using a sophisticated biomechanical system where markers are placed over the entire body, clothed of course. From this and other instruments we will analyse your foot and body measurements, 3D whole-body kinematics, foot-strike kinematics and joint moments / torques. This is likely to be the most in-depth analysis of your gait that you are likely to get for free. In the end we are aiming to investigate the minimal running shoe debate, to see if wearing different types of shoes changes your gait.

This study will likely occur in December and January next year, but we have a screening/ selection day coming up in the next two to three weeks.
What we are asking at the moment, is that if you fit one of the two categories below, that you would sign up for our screening day soon. The session is likely to last 15mins in the Sports Technology Institute, in which you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire, then we will analyse your gait quickly using a high speed video on a treadmill at a comfortable running speed of your choice. We will tell you immediately what type of foot-striker you are, then after post-processing we will let you know if you have been selected for the full analysis. Unfortunately the t-shirts will only be given to those selected for the main study. So, if you are interested then please reply to this email (B.Roberts@lboro.ac.uk ) and I will get in touch with dates and more details. There is a bit of leaway in some of the criteria, so please still get in touch if you are interested but don’t fit.
