CHARITIES SEEKING RUNNERS:
Diabetes UK in the East Midlands is looking for people who are running or hoping to run in the various events across the region, to run for Diabetes UK and raise sponsorship in doing so. They provide fundraising support and materials and all runners will receive a Diabetes UK running vest. The link for the Robin Hood is: http://www.diabeteschallenge.org.uk/diabetes/HEM000026.

STUDENTS SEEKING RUNNERS ASSISTANCE:

John Warren: I am a Masters Student at Loughborough University, studying Sports Science. For my masters research project I am carrying out an investigation into the anatomical and biomechanical determinants of running economy. I found your details linked with Shepshed Running Club on the internet and I wondered if you may be able to help in the recruitment of some articipants?
We are seeking healthy male volunteer participants above 18 years of age who undertake a minimum of 60 minutes of running activity per week. Participants must not regularly use orthotics.
Participants will be required to visit the laboratory for a total of no longer than three hours on a maximum of three separate occasions, though in most circumstances these would be less. Racing flats footwear must be worn during the completion of the running protocols (these will be provided if you do not own any).
I have attached a detailed outline of the study for those who wish to participate, along with our inclusion/exclusion criteria. If you know anybody at your club who may be interested then please could you put them in touch with me, either on this e-mail address J.Warren-09@student.lboro.ac.uk or by phone 07540809120.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Matt Sedgwick: I am a PhD student in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences currently looking for endurance trained males to participate in a study.
I have attached a copy of the participant information that outlines the aims of the study and what you would have to do for the study.
In return for doing the study you will be provided with your personal results from the study and have them explained to you if you so wish.
Of particular interest to you may be the results from the:
1. Sub-maximal, speed-lactate, test (which allows for measures of running economy and lactate thresholds that are often used to base training intensities on) 2. Maximal oxygen uptake test (VO2max) which provides a measure of endurance fitness
The lab is equipped with a computer, printer and wi-fi access for personal laptops if you wish to work and a television, DVD player and games console for your entertainment.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Mark Hobden: Myself and two university colleagues are currently undertaking a research study at Loughborough University and are looking to recruit a number of male participants. The participants need to be trained distance runners, aged between 18-35 and non-smokers. The aim of the study is to investigate the mechanisms behind the performance benefit associated with mouth-rinsing a carbohydrate solution, such as Lucozade/Gatorade.The study involves 4 visits to the laboratory at Loughborough University. As part of the study participants will receive a detailed physiological assessment including VO2max, lactate threshold, running economy, optimal running zones and a 5km time-trial performance time. As I'm sure you are aware, most sport science companies usually charge a lot of money for this type of physiological assessment.
Do you know of any male runners that would be interested in being a participant in our study?
Would it be Ok for us to attend one of your training sessions so that we could talk to some of the runners?Any help would be greatly appreciated Email: m.hobden-09@student.lboro.ac.uk Phone: 07923411622
