Club News & Notices

March 2010

PUB NIGHT:
Tuesday 9th March after the run - food will be available.

LRRL MEETING:
See in the minutes details of the meeting held on 22nd Feb and attended on our behalf by Gill and Laurie.

AGM:
A good turnout on a Sunday evening. Most Club Officials remain in their posts, but Jake Smith has resigned as Men's Captain and has been replaced by Sharon Elliott as Ladies Captain. The full minutes are attached above.

Since the meeting Ian Martin has agreed to be race director again in 2010. After discussions at the pub with our current chairman, it was agreed we would have three meetings during the year all on the second Tuesday of a month so at least the alcoholics among us would be there. The dates are 13th April, 13th July and 12th October. Make a note in your diaries.

We recieved the following email after the race:
"I’ve only been running for a couple of months and joined Shelton Striders in January so this was the first cross country race I’ve competed in. I was thoroughly enjoying myself (but not the hills!) when about half an hour in I landed awkwardly on a rock and couldn’t continue. I was helped to a nearby car by some very friendly marshals and brought back to the finish and the Ambulance volunteers. Following four hours in A&E having my ankle and foot x-rayed I was told it’s badly sprained and I’ll be off my feet for a while.
I’m incredibly annoyed with myself (and the rock) for getting in the way of me completing my first cross county race but very thankful to those who stood around in the cold all morning showing us the way and waiting for idiots like me to fall over!
Thanks again to all involved in organising and marshalling these events, it’s greatly appreciated.
Hannah Leighton, Shelton Striders
(PS: I’ve not been put off and I’ll be back as soon as I can walk (and run)!)"

CENTRE PARCS:
Twenty lady members of SRC enjoyed another relaxing weekend at Centre Parcs in January. Activities included badminton, squash, flexiball line dancing, boxercise, biking and crazy golf as well as the constants of running and playing in the wild water rapids. A geat time was had by everyone - it was just a pity that illness kept a couple of friends from joining us.
We hope to return next year and welcome lady members to sign up with Su,Sally or Sheila.
